About Community Finance Ireland

Community Finance Ireland is a charity, social enterprise, and all‑island social finance provider offering flexible, ethical loans to voluntary‑led organisations creating social impact. Celebrating our 25 Year Anniversary in 2026, we have grown to become the most progressive social finance provider on the island of Ireland, with a presence in every community across both Ireland and Northern Ireland. Our mission is simple: to support the voluntary, community and social enterprise sector by providing accessible, responsible finance that enables people to turn community‑driven ideas into real impact.

How It Works

Community Finance Ireland provides flexible, community‑centred loans to organisations whose work delivers clear social benefit. Every loan they approve must show a convincing social impact, ensuring funding is directed where it improves lives and strengthens communities. We have already supported over 250 sports projects, over 300 community projects, and 87 enterprise and workspace projects representing a total of £116 million invested across the island. Our lending approach is rooted in partnership: we work with both capital providers and community clients to “see the change and make the change,” offering finance in a way that suits volunteer‑led organisations and community groups.

Why Choose Us

Community Finance Ireland’s approach is grounded in four core values: community‑centric, impact‑driven, ethical Stewardship, and being curious and courageous, committed to understanding local needs and helping communities thrive. We are also the first and only organisation in the UK or Ireland accredited by the Federation for Ethical Banking in Europe (FEBEA), demonstrating our leadership in ethical, responsible finance. Our small, passionate team, led by Group Chief Executive Dónal Traynor, prides itself on accessible, people‑centred finance: “We speak finance. But we hear people.”
